Baby Braxton (named for the Braxton-Hicks contractions presaging labor that began in the 17th week of pregnancy) interrupted the birthday party Stamford Hospital’s nurses had planned for his mother, Linda Wilson of Norwalk. The party was to include 20 family members. Linda had been on bed rest for eight weeks and the baby arrived after 25 weeks of pregnancy, weighing just a pound and a half. He spent 77 days in the NICU where, clearly, everyone grew to love him. Now at just about two years old, Braxton is a healthy and spirited little boy who enjoys just about everything and “smiles and smiles and smiles” says his mom, Linda.

Stamford Hospital’s Level II+ NICU, where Braxton spent the first 77 days of his life, is designed to provide a highly sophisticated level of medical support in an environment that is also peaceful, private and nurturing—of babies and their parents. Babies born as early as 24 or 25 weeks are able to be cared for in this facility so they don’t have to be sent away from their mothers. Benchmarked among units of similar size and technology, Stamford Hospital’s NICU is ranked in the top 1% nationally in survival rates.
