Diabetes Support

Diabetes Self Management Education Program

This four-part series will allow participants to share their experiences with the challenges of living with diabetes. The group will discuss, nutrition guidelines, exercise and blood glucose effects, medications, sick day guidelines, healthy habits and community resources, etc. Day and evening classes are available to meet your needs. Cancer Support

What Do I Do Now?

A group for post-therapy women with breast cancer. The second and fourth Monday of each month, 7 - 8:30 p.m. Bennett Cancer Center. Advance registration is required.

Group Meditation Hour

Mondays, 1:30 - 2:15 p.m., Bennett Cancer Center.

Rehabilitation Support

Better Breathers

Who: Individuals who have COPD and other pulmonary disorders
Where: Tully Health Center - Conference Room B
When: Third Tuesday of each month, 1 - 3 p.m.

Lymphedema Support Group

Who: Individuals suffering from lymphedema who would benefit from a supportive and educational group
Where: Tully Health Center
When: Quarterly on Tuesday evening

Amputee Support Group

When: Third Tuesday of Every Month

Hospice Support

Morning support groups are offered on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at the First United Methodist Church (11a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) and evening support groups are offered on the 2nd and 4th Thursday at the VN&HC office at 1029 East Main Street (5:30 - 7 p.m.). Upon request, support groups are conducted at local schools for students and faculty, as well as for staff at local skilled nursing facilities.

Anyone from around the country who has had a loved one in a hospice program is welcome to come to the groups. Bereavement support is also offered to individuals whose loved one has died in another hospice program. Before attending a group, please contact Ed Simas at 203-276-3000. 

Palliative Care

Palliative care is health care that focuses on easing pain, symptoms, and the stress of serious illness for the patient and family. The goal is to enhance comfort and overall quality of life. It is useful at any stage of an illness and can be provided at the same time as all other medical treatments.
